About the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Cambridge is designed to provide talented students from all over Africa with fully-funded opportunities to complete their Master’s training, grow in transformative leadership, and contribute to climate resilience and sustainability in Africa. In addition to covering the full tuition costs, the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program covers visa and travel costs, and a living stipend.

Eligibility and Application Process

Prospective Mastercard Foundation Scholars can apply to the majority of courses available at the University. See the available programmes here.

As part of the application process, prospective Scholars will be required to provide a supplementary scholarship statement indicating their personal commitment to contributing to climate-sustainable futures for Africa. Please note that this year, if you are eligible for this fund and you apply, it will not show in your application PDF, but you will still be considered as usual.

Award Details

  • Award Duration: Course length

  • Award Purpose: Covers international fees, maintenance, student visa cost, student immigration health surcharge, and other related expenses.

  • Additional Support: All students will also have a laptop allowance and travel to the UK covered.

  • Number of Awards: Approximately 75

  • Award Year: 2025/26

  • Extendable Duration: No

  • Basis of Award Grant: Financial need (including hardship), academic merit, and fit to program values.

  • Requirements for Applicants:

    • Attendance at an induction program and termly leadership sessions.

    • Participation in post-course programming at an African partner institution (three to six months post-course).

  • Level of Study: Masters.

  • Mode of Study: Full Time.

  • Nationality: Africa (see full list on the scholarship website).

  • Country of Residence: Africa (see full list on the scholarship website).

  • Fee Status: Overseas.

  • Key Dates:

    • Application Deadline: Same as the funding deadline for the course.

    • Application Results Date: March – April.
