Maastricht University: Your Gateway to Europe
Situated in the heart of Europe, Maastricht University is renowned for being the most European university in the Netherlands. Today, we’re diving into the prestigious Maastricht University NL-High Potential Scholarship, which offers full scholarships of €34,000 (including tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend) each academic year for highly talented students from outside the European Union (EU) who have been admitted to a master’s programme at UM.
Scholarship Highlights

Full Scholarship Amount: €34,000 per academic year

Components: Tuition fee waiver and a monthly stipend

Housing: A mandatory part of the scholarship is the allocated accommodation. Accepting the scholarship means accepting the room. Preferences regarding accommodation will be considered based on religious beliefs. Refusing the room results in the scholarship being cancelled.
The scholarship aims to provide living expenses amounting to €15,925 (€1,225 per month), which covers:

Housing: €600

Groceries and personal hygiene: €160

Telephone: €60
-
Travel: €100
-
Books and study materials: €90
-
Clothing, hobbies, and going out: €125

Miscellaneous: €90
The Scholarship programme consists of both the High Potential Scholarship (funded by the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund) and the NL Scholarship, financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in collaboration with Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences. It’s designed for international students from outside the EU/EEA who wish to pursue a full degree programme in the Netherlands.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the UM NL-High Potential Scholarship, all candidates must meet the following requirements:

Hold a nationality outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Surinam and meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands.

Do not hold dual nationality from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland.

Have applied for admission to a participating full-time master programme at Maastricht University for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Meet the specific admission requirements of the UM master programme.

Have never participated in a degree-seeking higher education programme in the Netherlands (exchange programme participants are eligible to apply).

Be no older than 35 years of age on 1 September 2025.

Have obtained excellent results in previous education programmes, with a GPA of 7.5 out of 10 or higher.
Important: Ensure all documents meet the requirements before starting your application, as no additions or replacements can be made after submission.

13 months for a one-year master’s programme

25 months for a two-year master’s programme

This is a highly competitive scholarship, with only 2% of applicants being awarded.
